Uige: The provincial governor of Uige, José Carvalho da Rocha, appealed on Tuesday to the local population to report cases of illegal gold mining in the region, a measure aimed at strengthening the fight against this practice in the region. The appeal was made during the ordinary session of the Uige Provincial Government, which assessed social and economic issues in the province. According to Angola Press News Agency, Governor José Carvalho da Rocha emphasized the severity of illegal gold mining in Uige and urged the community to actively report and combat such activities. He highlighted the detrimental environmental impact of illegal mineral exploitation and stressed the importance of addressing this issue with all available resources. The governor noted that collaboration with the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum is underway to establish small and medium-sized projects. This initiative aims to provide alternative opportunities for local youth, steering them away from illegal mining activities. Rocha also urged traditional authorities and community leaders to engage in dialogue with young people to discourage involvement in illegal mining practices.
