Handball: Angola reach African Championship final

Luanda – Angola senior women’s handball team qualified Thursday for the final of the African Championship taking place in Dakar (Senegal), after beating in overtime the host Senegal by 24-21.

Leading 12-10 in the first half, it took a lot of effort by the Angolan women to confirm their presence in the final and seek the 15th continental title.

The second half ended with the score tied (20-20) , much thanks to the great saves made by the Angolan goalkeeper Marta Alberto.

In the first five minutes of overtime, the tie prevailed, but in the next stage Angola was more effective in defence and more efficient in attack to overcome the opponent.

In the other semi-final, Cameroon beat Congo, 27-25.

Angola, defending champions, face Cameroon in the final on Saturday.
