Head of State congratulates Equatorial Guinea´s counterpart

Luanda – The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on Wednesday sent a message of congratulations to the people of Equatorial Guinea, on the 54th anniversary of the country’s independence, which is marked on 12 October.

In the congratulatory document, the Angolan Head of State praised the achievements of the Equatorial Guinea nation, under the leadership of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.

João Lourenço highlights the “very significant” advances in recent decades in democracy, justice and human rights fields.

In the letter, the Angolan Head of State expresses the willingness of his government to work in a coordinated way with the Equatorial Guinea Government to intensify common actions.

These are joint actions at bilateral level and in the context of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), which lead to the materialisation of projects of mutual interest, which favour the progress and development of both countries and peoples.

The cooperation relations between Angola and Equatorial Guinea reached their high point in 2006, when the General Cooperation Agreement was signed.

The country that is situated on the west coast of central Africa led by Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is the most recent member of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, even though it is a Spanish-speaking country.
