Luanda – Health minister, Silvia Lutucuta, said in Luanda that the government continues working to provide quality and humanised services to all users.
The minister, who was speaking on the World Day of the Sick marked on February 11, said the government has aligned policies and plans for the improvement of these services, investing, continuously, in the training and specialisation of health professionals.
“We want to provide good services, at any time and place, and for that we need the collaboration of all technicians in the sector,” the minister said.
Lutucuta said the occasion should serve for health professionals to reiterate their integral part in this process by showing love and care to patients.
Speaking to ANGOP, Carlos Zeca, director of Josina Machel Hospital, touched on the need to reflect about the care provided to patients, from day one of their hospital admission until their discharge.
According to the specialist, the sick person presents different levels of incapacity and associated disadvantages, weakening and even making it impossible to seek appropriate resources and to defend their unequivocal interests and established rights.
According to the doctor, the patient must be the real and true focus of health care, making him the object of all the acts, actions and interventions that have the purpose of diagnosing and treating, improving his clinical picture and, whenever possible, completely recovering health state.
The hospital director underlined the importance of firstly looking after the preventive side of the patients, which starts with basic things like hygiene.
“On this international day of the sick people, I ask that they do not feel helpless and shy, because health technicians serve as a support to help in the recovery and concern of all”, Zeca said.
WHO’s view
The sick person, to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Health Service, should be placed at the centre of the health system, being one of the main focuses of attention of nurses.
These are the health professionals who are present at all moments of their evolution or cure, so for them, this is also an important day as it reinforces the importance of their work and the services they provide to patients every day.
Running at the initiative of the Catholic Church, the World Day of the Sick is being celebrated in the liturgical memory of Our Lady of Lourdes, a date instituted in 1992.
