Luanda: More than 500 people have been left homeless in the municipalities of Luena and L©ua, in the province of Moxico, after their homes were destroyed by heavy rain.
According to Angola Press News Agency, 61 houses of precarious construction were destroyed by the rains in the municipality of Luena, the provincial capital, in November alone, leaving 253 people homeless. These incidents were reported in the Dala Sul locality, particularly in the Saºde, Cacupa, Samussole, Nunhonde, and Mwa Teresa neighborhoods, located 25 kilometers south of the city, and in the 11 de Novembro neighborhood on the outskirts of Luena.
In the municipality of L©ua, situated 62 kilometers east of Luena, the rains affected 50 poorly built houses, with 18 of them completely destroyed, resulting in 250 people being displaced. The recent constant rains in the province of Moxico have not only destroyed homes but have also led to the formation of new ravines in the region.
