Cuilo: Twenty families in the municipality of Cuilo, located in Lunda-Norte province, have been forced to leave their homes following heavy rains that have recently battered the region, leading to the collapse of their residences.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the information was disclosed in Dundo by Txibuabua Mazango, the spokesman for the Civil Protection and Fire Services in Lunda-Norte. He noted that the affected families have found temporary refuge with relatives as they await assistance from authorities for the reconstruction of their homes.
Mazango highlighted that the houses, which were constructed using adobes, were vulnerable to the heavy rainfall due to their location in high-risk areas. The structural integrity of these homes could not withstand the pressure from the accumulated water.
In addition to the displacement of families, the authorities reported four fatalities caused by various incidents, including two from lightning strikes, one from a wall collapse, and another from hanging. The region also experienced three minor fires.
The spokesman urged the community to enhance fire prevention measures and avoid building in hazardous locations to ensure their safety.
