Hichem Snoussi denounces “pressure” on HAICA

Hichem Snoussi, a member of the Independent High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HAICA) said that “a collective resignation of the members of the authority’s board is the best solution, especially as they refuse to serve in a ‘false’ authority.”

In a statement to TAP Monday, Snoussi said the board members were unanimous in saying that “working within HAICA has become almost impossible”.

He said the council members were asking the President of the Republic to appoint a new president to head the regulatory body so that it could continue its activities, pending the submission of a draft law on the authority to the new parliament.

HAICA’s board had decided last March 15 to appoint Salah Sersi as interim head of the authority until a draft law on the organisation of the regulator and the sector is submitted to the new parliament.

HAICA took this decision in the absence of a response from the President of the Republic to its request to appoint a new president to ensure the continuity of the public service, according to a statement issued on March 15.

The authority warned against attempts by the government and some officials to exercise administrative control over the work of its board by creating this leadership vacuum in collusion with its former president.

Snoussi said “the regulator is under pressure and administrative control over its activities”.
