Huambo: The governor of Huambo province, Pereira Alfredo, stated on Thursday that ensuring the safety of the population is the top priority, which requires continuous investment in improving the infrastructure of the Interior Ministry's offices. The governor made the statement at the inauguration of the 9th police station, which will also have a vehicle donated for community policing and to reinforce the sense of security among residents, including those in the Lossambo satellite city.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Pereira Alfredo said that the action is part of the program to improve the working conditions of the National Police force, with the expansion of infrastructure to the new municipalities resulting from the new Political-Administrative Division of the country. He stated that the strategy involves ensuring greater coverage and proximity of the Interior Ministry's services to the population.
The commander of the National Police in Huambo province, Commissioner Jos© Fernando Ma§o, said that the new police station will allow for a more effective response to the number of incidents in the Lossambo central area and the Juventude neighborhood. He said that these areas register, on average, five crimes per day and about 135 per month, with emphasis on thefts, robberies, and offenses against physical integrity.
He also highlighted the increase in thefts of vehicle license plates as one of the concerns being addressed with a specific operational plan, which resulted in the arrest of several suspects. The commander added that actions to combat road accidents are also underway, with the involvement of specialized forces and reinforced resources, to ensure greater safety on public roads.
