Huambo:The health sector in the municipality of Huambo has announced an increase in awareness and prevention campaigns against malaria. These community-based actions aim to reduce the incidence of the disease and related deaths. According to Angola Press News Agency, municipal health director Miguel Balaca explained that health authorities have intensified community prevention efforts. This is particularly focused in areas lacking sanitation infrastructure and locations with high population concentrations. The campaigns include health fairs, medical consultations, community awareness activities on preventive measures, and the distribution of mosquito nets. Priority is given to pregnant women receiving care at health units. Miguel Balaca highlighted that malaria remains a leading cause of death in the municipality's health units. This situation has prompted the reinforcement of prevention programs and medical assistance within communities. As part of these efforts, health authorities conducted malaria and measles prevention activities in the village of Cacito, located in the commune of Calima, which lacks sanitation infrastructure. In August, 8,076 malaria cases were treated, resulting in 17 deaths, compared to 11,072 cases in the same period in 2025, which led to 21 deaths.
