Huambo: Water debt stands at more than AKz 1 bln

Huambo – Accumulated water consumption debt in central Huambo province stands at 1.8 billion, from 2015 to the present date, the local Water and Sanitation Company told ANGOP on Monday.

The company’s CEO, Adolfo Elias Gomes, who regretted the poor culture in paying for State services in the region, blames on the private and institutional customers for the debt.

The manager said that in 2022 the company managed to recover a total of Akz701.027 million in debt, as result of the inspection and awareness actions it carried out in that year.

In the same year, he added, the institution collected Akz215.033 million, when the forecast amount was of around Akz1.068 billion.

The manager put the commercial losses in 2022 at 70%, taking into account the difference between the amount collected and the billing.

In order to reverse the situation, the manager announced plans to step up inspection and awareness campaigns on the importance of paying for water consumption this year.

He recalled that Huambo province has an average monthly production capacity of 13.134 million cubic meters of water.

The local Water and Sanitation Company has currently 86,000 registered customers, of whom 56,000 are active, having only 50% payment regularity.

Located in Angola’s Central Plateau, Huambo comprises 11 municipalities.
