Huambo Wins “Best Municipality in Angola” Award

Benguela: Good governance practices and quality budget execution earned the city of Huambo, located in the central highlands, the prestigious title of "Best Municipality in Angola" for the 2025 edition. This accolade was announced during a gala event held in Benguela as part of the 5th Edition of the Fair of Municipalities and Cities of Angola (FMCA).

According to Angola Press News Agency, the event, organized by the Ministry of Administration of the Territory, aimed to promote local development and was attended by prominent figures, including Ministers of State, provincial governors, and administrators from Angola's 326 municipalities. As the top-ranked type A municipality, Huambo received a 100 million kwanzas monetary award. Other winners included Camapuca in Bi©, Cangandala in Malanje, and Chipindo, which received 90, 80, and 70 million kwanzas respectively for the B, C, and D categories.

Additionally, the jury recognized several municipalities for specific achievements. Porto Aboim in Cuanza Sul was acknowledged for expanding energy and water infrastructure in rural areas. The category of 'Urbanism, Infrastructures and Spatial Planning' saw accolades for Huambo, Buco Zau in Cabinda, and Chipindo in Huila.

In the 'Protection and Conservation of Ecosystems and Biodiversity' category, Dande in Bengo, the Environmental Olympics in Cabinda, and Quipungo in Huila were celebrated for their efforts in environmental conservation and waste management. The 'Equality and Inclusion' category honored Matala in Huila, Porto Aboim in Cuanza Sul, and another municipality for initiatives supporting women's empowerment and community credit facilities.

Huambo once again stood out in the professional education and qualification category with its school garden project promoting quality and inclusive education. Camacupa in Bi© was recognized for expanding the school network. The municipality of Ganda in Benguela was awarded for its connectivity, entrepreneurship, and innovation project focused on wheat revitalization, with Luanda and Chicala Choloanga also being acknowledged.

In the child-focused category, the Om¡la Vetu project from Bailundo in Huambo, Cacuso in Malanje's 'Tuppi: all for the early childhood' initiative, and Buco Zau in Cabinda were celebrated for their contributions to child development.

The Best Municipality of Angola award, established under Presidential Decree No. 166/23 on August 4, aims to enhance public management in municipalities by promoting initiatives that ensure quality, efficiency, and effectiveness in local government actions, while maintaining integrity and good governance practices.
