Benguela: The governor of Benguela province, Manuel Nunes Júnior, praised the visit of the President of the Republic, Joo Lourenço, waiting from the holder of the Executive branch 'all the support' for the development of this region of the country. According to Angola Press News Agency, as part of the Integrated Public Infrastructure Program initiated by the President, the province has transformed into a 'construction site'. Several key roads in Benguela and Lobito cities are underway, enhancing urban mobility for both motorists and pedestrians. Notable among these are avenues like 'Governador Sousa Coutinho', 'Serpa Pinto', 'Praia Morena', '31 de Janeiro', and 'Aires de Almeida Santos' in Benguela, while in Lobito, the transformation is evident in 'Socrates Dáskalos', 'Salvador Correia', and 'Brazil' avenues. The governor also noted delays in some projects due to financial resource constraints. These include the Monumental and Flamingo Cines and extending the Marginal of Praia Morena to the Cavaco River's mouth, which aims to enhance leisure and infrastructure facilities. Approved by Presidential Order number 142/21, the Benguela Integrated Infrastructure Project commenced in March 2022, with a projected completion by 2027 and an estimated budget of 415 million euros. Before these developments, navigating the cities was difficult due to poor road conditions and water stagnation during rains. Another significant project, approved in July 2024 but yet to start, is Benguela's external road circular. This project, budgeted at $517 million, aims to connect Benguela with Lobito and Catumbela, diverting heavy traffic from urban areas. Manuel Nunes Júnior expressed optimism about the President's visit, hoping to secure continued support for the province's development efforts. He acknowledged the challenges but remained hopeful about overcoming them with President Joo Lourenço's involvement. The governor emphasized the importance of optimism and dedication to improving the population's quality of life. He highlight ed the ongoing and upcoming projects in various domains, aiming for the well-being of the people. In Benguela, the President will inaugurate the 5th edition of the Fair of Municipalities and Cities of Angola, promoting local development and experience exchange. The event, held from August 9-11 at the Ombaka National Stadium, marks the 50th anniversary of Independence. Following the inauguration, Joo Lourenço will lead the first extraordinary meeting of the local governance council, bringing together provincial governors to evaluate the progress of key projects across the country.
