Dodoma:The Conference of Women Parliamentarians from the Great Lakes Region (WPC-FP ICGLR) concluded its fourth and final day on Thursday, focusing on presenting the Tanzania Declaration and launching a Regional Action Plan. The event, led by Adão de Almeida, Speaker of the National Assembly and head of the Forum of Parliaments of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR), aimed to strengthen cooperation among regional partners.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the program included a summary of the third day's proceedings, followed by the presentation of outcomes and an assessment of the commitments that have been reinforced. The session featured national commitments and declarations, with statements from development partners and regional organizations to bolster collaboration on discussed issues.
The concluding phase involved remarks from delegates and an address by the Secretary-General of the FP-ICGLR. The event also announced outcomes and established guidelines for following up on commitments made by women parliamentarians from the Great Lakes region. The gathering provided a space to reflect on these commitments and the ongoing challenges in enhancing women's participation in building a more secure and inclusive Great Lakes region.
Hosted by Tanzania, the event followed an agreement signed on May 12 in Dodoma, attended by an Angolan parliamentary delegation led by Sérgio Vaz, chair of the FP-ICGLR Executive Committee. The signing, involving the secretaries-general of Tanzania's National Assembly and the FP-CIRGL, emphasized the importance of the conference for strengthening female leadership in African parliaments and consolidating regional cooperation among ICGLR member states.
