IESA Highlights Role in Angolan National Independence

Huambo: The president of the Evangelical Synodal Church in Angola (IESA), Pastor Dinis Eurico, emphasized the church's role in the country's National Independence by promoting moral and human consciousness rooted in biblical principles. According to Angola Press News Agency, Pastor Eurico spoke at a conference celebrating the jubilee of the 'Yeva Ondaka' program, a radio initiative meaning 'Listen to the Word' in Portuguese, broadcast in the Umbundu language. The program played a crucial part in spreading messages of hope, peace, and unity during Angola's turbulent historical and political periods, aiding social mobilization towards independence. Pastor Dinis Eurico remarked that 'Yeva Ondaka', now celebrating its 50th anniversary, was initially recorded in Angola and broadcast from Swaziland amidst political instability. It has remained a vital platform for civic, moral, and spiritual education throughout the years. He assured that IESA would continue its collaboration with the Angolan government to discou rage violence, vandalism, and demonstrations deemed inhumane. He further stated that for IESA followers, the Gospel is the only force capable of transforming individuals and inspiring behavioral changes, aligning with a humanist project centered on the Holy Scriptures and fostering a responsible conscience. Pastor and radio host Isaac Silvano also highlighted the church's enduring cooperation with the government, offering joy and hope even during challenging times until the achievement of peace in 2002. With a 128-year presence in Angola, IESA has established itself across all provinces, focusing on provincial capitals. As the church celebrates the 50th anniversary of National Independence, it also commemorates the jubilee of the "Yeva Ondaka" program.
