India President Embarks on Historic Visit to Angola

Luanda: The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, is starting this Saturday a historical visit to Angola, thus becoming the first Head of State of that Asian country to visit the Angolan republic.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the official visit, which happens in the ambit of an invitation that has been made by President Joo Louren§o, will take place until November 12. It occurs at a moment of great symbolism for Angola, as the country is commemorating 50 years of National Independence on November 11 and celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Luanda and New Delhi.

During her stay, President Draupadi Murmu will meet with her Angolan counterpart on November 9 to assess the state of bilateral relations in the areas of economy, technology, energy, and education. On November 11, Ms. Murmu will attend the main ceremony commemorating Angola's 50th Independence anniversary. Her agenda includes participating in a solemn session of the National Assembly, where she will deliver a message to the Angolan people, and meeting with members of the Indian community in Angola.

This visit opens a new page in Angola-India relations, focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation and friendship ties, as well as strengthening solidarity between the two peoples. It also follows President Joo Louren§o's visit to India six months ago, during which he met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and signed several memorandums of understanding in agriculture, health, culture, youth, and renewable energies.

Angola and India have maintained diplomatic relations since 1985, reinforced by agreements in strategic areas, with a focus on commerce, investments, crude oil, diamonds, information technologies, and higher education.
