INEFOP Trains Over 1,000 Young People in First Quarter in Namibe

Namibe: At least 1,200 young people were trained in the first quarter of this year in Namibe by the National Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (INEFOP), within the scope of short-term courses taught in the different training centers and pavilions in the region.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the information was released on Thursday by the head of the INEFOP Provincial Services in Namibe, Avelino Mac-Mahon. He added that the training covered areas such as metalwork, sewing, pastry making, secretarial work, and computer skills.

The official noted significant growth in the number of trainees at the T´mbwa Integrated Employment and Vocational Training Center, which saw an increase from an average of 120 to 130 registered candidates to about 375 candidates, with 226 young people trained during the period. In Virei, 117 young people completed training, while Lucira had 46 trainees.

Mac-Mahon identified English, Cooking and Pastry, Computer Science, Hygiene, Health and Safety at Work, and Advanced Excel courses as the most sought after by young people.

He assessed the first training cycle of the year positively, citing strong participation in the Integrated Employment and Vocational Training Centers of T´mbwa and Mo§Smedes, as well as in the training pavilions of Luzira and Virei.

INEFOP has begun registration and enrollment for the second cycle of short-term courses, with more than 1,800 candidates registered in various specialties.

For long-term courses, Mac-Mahon explained that final data are still being updated due to the final evaluation period for trainees scheduled for next week.

As part of its strategy to decentralize vocational training, INEFOP extended courses to the province's prison services in tailoring, carpentry, electricity, and metalwork.
