Luanda: Interclube began the Angolan Boxing Cup on Tuesday in Luanda with positive results, as the competition unfolded in the annex pavilion of the Cidadela Sports Complex, featuring 28 bouts. According to Angola Press News Agency, Interclube's Jonilson Matumona set the tone for his team in the 55 kg category, securing a victory against a Sporting do Lubango athlete via referee stoppage in the second round of the preliminaries. This marked the first win for Interclube in the tournament. In a significant turn of events, Miguel Kembo, also from Interclube, claimed victory in the 47 kg category by "walkover" due to the absence of his opponent from Inter da Huíla. Another standout performance came from Tétano Felemo of the Talentos club, the national champion, who triumphed in the 65 kg category by defeating Gilson Futia from H. de Pain with a 3-0 score. The opening round also witnessed several "walkover" victories attributed to some teams arriving late for weigh-ins due to travel challenges. The competition is set to continue until the 27th of the month, spanning ten weight categories. Scheduled activities for Wednesday include a weigh-in for athletes at 10:00 AM, followed by the federation's technical team arranging the pairings for the second round, which is set to commence at 2:00 PM.
