Luanda: The general coordinator of the Forum of Women Journalists, Milena da Costa, emphasized on Wednesday that media professionals should go beyond merely reporting facts and act as mediators between different social realities.
According to Angola Press News Agency, da Costa made these remarks during the opening of a debate titled "The context of communities and respect for human rights." The event aimed to highlight the media's crucial role in advocating for gender equality across all platforms. Da Costa underscored the importance of valuing the diversity and dignity of various communities, urging journalists to avoid perpetuating stereotypes and instead promote fair and inclusive representation.
She pointed out that human rights violations are prevalent in certain regions, necessitating a more responsible and sensitive approach from media professionals. Journalists, according to da Costa, are instrumental in shaping narratives and should act as a conduit between community voices and broader society.
"Respect for human rights must be at the center of any journalistic coverage, based on rigor, ethics, responsibility, and empathy," da Costa emphasized.
The initiative featured participation from Forum members and invited guests, including experts in gender issues and social communication. The debate also offered insights into the media's role in fostering inclusion and enhancing social cohesion.
