Lunda norte: Interior Minister Manuel Homem on Monday reiterated that the authorities are continuing to implement measures to strengthen the response capacity of the relevant agencies to combat fuel smuggling, illegal diamond mining, and immigration. After meeting with Lunda Norte Governor Filomena Miza, the minister highlighted the province's exceptional characteristics and the need for joint and redoubled actions from defense and security agencies to address the criminals' modus operandi.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the minister emphasized that the visit aimed to assess the readiness of the forces, correct any procedures, and provide guidance to continue improving the performance of the Ministry's agencies at the provincial level. The minister reiterated the commitment to continue monitoring the needs of the Border Guard Police, such as the introduction of new resources to improve the skills of the personnel.
Manuel Homem recalled that a program to install IT and technological resources at the borders is already underway to make the inspection and monitoring of migratory flows more effective. He reported that the process of installing monitoring and surveillance equipment has begun in Zaire province and is currently being implemented in Cunene and Cabinda, ensuring that the project will be intensive, especially in the border regions.
The minister praised the work being done by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Lunda-Norte in combating diamond mining and fuel smuggling.
