International Conference on Energy and Water Kicks Off in Luanda

Luanda: The 2nd International Conference on Energy and Water began on Thursday in Luanda, aiming to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and sustainability of the electricity and water sectors in Angola in the coming years.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the event runs until this Friday under the motto 'Energy and Water: 50 Years Serving the Country, Towards Sustainability', organized by the Angolan Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Water. The opening session was chaired by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Jos© de Lima Massano.

The conference takes place at a time when the country is committed to strengthening its regional positioning in terms of energy transition and water security through the implementation of structuring projects to expand access to electricity and drinking water. At the event, Angola will present its main ongoing actions in the water sector, highlighting the Bita and Quilonga Grande projects, which are scheduled to become operational anytime in the current year. These projects aim to strengthen the supply of drinking water to the Luanda metropolitan area and the Icolo and Bengo province.

In the energy sector, attention is focused on the Caculo Caba§a Hydroelectric Project. This infrastructure is crucial for increasing the national energy production capacity, supporting the industrialization process, and consolidating Angola as an energy powerhouse in the region. The forum also addresses the impact of the Program to Combat the Effects of Drought in Southern Angola (PCESSA), which has already enabled the delivery of canals, pipelines, and water reservoirs in the provinces of Cunene and Namibe.

The meeting brings together more than 500 delegates and about 40 companies, including national and foreign, members of the Executive, political decision-makers, national and foreign experts, academics, entrepreneurs, investors, and multilateral partners. During the two days, participants will also analyze topics linked to technological innovation, international cooperation, private investment, and the historical trajectory of 50 years of the energy and water sectors in the country's socio-economic development.
