Luanda – The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco Friday in Luanda expressed his intention to continue working with the Angolan Parliament, with a view to defending democracy, freedom and conflict resolution.

The Portuguese at the service of the IPU spoke to the press at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, with whom he discussed issues related to this body.

Duarte Pacheco, who took over from Gabriela Cuevas Barron of Mexico, said that the IPU is available to support the National Assembly (Angolan Parliament) in whatever way necessary, with a view to strengthening existing cooperation ties.

The 30th president of the IPU, who heads a delegation of the organisation, has been in Angola on an official visit at the invitation of the National Assembly Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

Still on Friday, Duarte Pacheco was received in an audience by the National Assembly Speaker, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, whom he thanked for Angola’s support for his election to the position.
