Joo Louren§o Proposes Greater Coordination for Portuguese Recognition at UN

Lisbon: Angolan President Joo Louren§o proposed on Friday in Lisbon greater coordination between the CPLP countries so that Portuguese is recognized as a working language in the United Nations and other multilateral organizations. He made this proposal during an official dinner hosted by his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Angolan Head of State reiterated the principle of rotation in the presidency of the CPLP, aiming to ensure equity between member states. During his speech, Joo Louren§o highlighted the maturity and vitality of relations between Angola and Portugal, emphasizing that the two countries have transformed "a relationship of subjugation into an example of friendship and mutually advantageous cooperation."

The President proposed a new stage of strategic cooperation between Angola and Portugal, focusing on sectors such as industry, agriculture, mining, and science. He highlighted the signing of 11 new bilateral legal instruments on Friday, which are aimed at deepening collaboration in various areas.

He pointed out that, despite the density of the exchange, there are vast opportunities to be explored in the bilateral relationship. In the context of the 50 years of national independence, President Joo Louren§o invited his Portuguese counterpart to participate in the central ceremony of the celebrations.

He also addressed global challenges affecting countries, particularly climate change, food and energy insecurity, and international instability, calling for more vigorous joint action to face these threats.
