Journalist Zied El Heni held in police custody for another 48 hours

Journalist Zied El Heni will be held in police custody for a further 48 hours, The National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) said Saturday.

In a statement issued at the end of its meeting on Saturday, the SNJT stressed that the prolongation of Zied El Heni’s detention violates the procedures for the prosecution of journalists.

To this end, the union has called on journalists and all active forces in the country to take part in a protest rally next Monday in front of the Tunis Court of First Instance to demand the release of Zied El Heni.

As a reminder, the prosecutor at the Tunis Court of First Instance decided on December 28 to take journalist Zied El Heni into custody.

Accused of defaming the Minister of Trade, El Heni was questioned by the 5th brigade of the National Guard in El Aouina.
