Lack of Funds Hinders Street Naming Implementation in Zaire Province

Soyo: The director of the provincial office of Registration and Administrative Modernization, Ant³nio F©lix Kialungila, announced that a lack of funds has hindered the implementation of street naming and house numbering in Zaire province. In his statement, made in Soyo, Kialungila highlighted the challenges faced in the process.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Kialungila explained that multi-sectoral commissions were established at both provincial and municipal levels. These commissions were tasked with identifying streets and consulting with communities as part of the project. Despite these efforts, the initiative has stalled due to insufficient financial resources needed for the production of identification plates and other related activities.

Kialungila emphasized the difficulty in identifying potential funding sources to sustain the project. He made this statement during a regional seminar focused on the new Political-Administrative Division and the implementation of toponymy and police numbering, which took place from the 26th to the 27th in Soyo.

The official noted that including the program for toponymy and police numbering in the General State Budget was a key recommendation from the seminar. This event gathered officials and technicians from the Municipal Administrations, provincial directors of the Registry and Administrative Modernization offices, and deputy municipal administrators from Zaire, Cabinda, Uge, and Bengo provinces.

The seminar was led by Abrao Madureira, head of the cartography department of the national directorate of territorial organization of the Ministry of Territorial Administration. Notably, as part of the new Political-Administrative Division, Zaire province expanded from 6 to 11 municipalities.
