LUANDA GOVERNOR HONOURS NATION’S FOUNDER

Luanda – The governor of the province of Luanda, Ana Paula de Carvalho, paid on Friday, homage to the first President of the Republic of Angola and Founder of the Nation, António Agostinho Neto, with the hoisting of the Monument Flag, at the Military History Museum, in the urban district of Ingombota, Luanda municipality.

In the sequence of the provincial commemoration of the day of the medical doctor and poet, that today would complete his 99th birthday anniversary, the governor of Luanda province, deposited a wreath in the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and in the Sarcophagus, in the Memorial António Agostinho Neto.

After both activities, in declarations to the press, the governor, Ana Paula de Carvalho, emphasized that the citizens of Luanda must remember the Statesman, for his teachings that continue to be reference for the contemporaries and the new generation.

For the nationalist and president of Sagrada Esperança Foundation, Roberto de Almeida, it is important that all Angolans are committed so that the saying of António Agostinho Neto, in which ” The most important thing is to solve the problems of the people”, is achieved.

In his turn, the minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Jomo Fortunato, underlined that the Founder of the Nation must also be analyzed of the cultural point of view and remembered through the music, accenting that it served as pretext to oppose the process of the slavery and the colonialism.

According to the governor, the deed of António Agostinho Neto, must be part of the school programs, in the direction of the coming generations to perceive the Statesman in a retrospective vision and perspective toward the development.

The day ended with a Sarau Cultural Neto, Present, at the Memorial António Agostinho Neto, where several musicians interpreted songs based on the poetic texts of the honouree of the day.

The Founder of the Nation was born on September 17, 1922, in the Village of Caxicane, municipality of Icolo and Bengo, and died on the 10th of the same month, in Moscow, Union of the Former Soviet Socialist Republic, now Russia.
