Lunda Sul: Government highlights gains in education sector

Saurimo – The governor of the eastern Lunda Sul province Daniel Neto highlighted Wednesday the achievements in the education sector, with stress to the integration this year of 291, 017 students, distributed in 442 new classrooms.

In his End-of-Year Message, Daniel Neto said that since 2018 some 1,978 new teachers were hired.

He said the province implemented the secondary education centers to train teachers in the 10 communes, in order to improve the quality of education.

In the field of higher education, Daniel Neto said 3,700 technicians entered the job market.

Among them, including bachelors and graduates from the two academic institutions, such as Lueji A N´Konde University and Lusíadas Higher

Polytechnic Institute in Lunda sul.

He also announced the ongoing construction of University Centre of Lunda Sul, whose works running smoothly.

Health

He also announced that in 2022 new health facilities started operating, with the number of doctors having increased, from 26 in 2018, to 116 today.

Energy

Daniel Neto said that in the sector of energy the power increased from 17 megawatts in 2018 to 39.8 in 2022 and the number of customers increased from 11,756 in 2018 to 26,923 this year.

Water

In this sector, the official said the investment made it possible to increase the installed capacity in the only Saurimo Treatment Plant from 280 in 2018, to 300 cubic meters per hour this year.

As for Agriculture: the governor said the family farming benefited in this campaign agricultural production of 100 tons of corn, rice, millet, soybeans, and 400 of various fertilizers.

On the other hand, the governor also announced plans for the creation of the prize provincial arts to encourage the creators in the various categories.

He also announced the creation of the provincial prize to distinguish the best neighbourhood, commune and village.

The province of Lunda Sul has an estimated population of 609,851 inhabitants, distributed in four municipalities: Saurimo, Cacolo, Dala and Muconda.
