Zaire: A 48-year-old man accused of intentionally transmitting HIV/AIDS to two 15-year-old girls was arrested last weekend by the National Police in the northern province of Zaire.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the incident occurred on May 22 of this year in the border town of N³qui, where the suspect allegedly lured the two minors, who live in the capital city of Luanda, without their parents' consent.
Local police spokesperson Chief Inspector Nicolau Modelo Garcia explained that the accused, a neighbor of the girls, invited them to travel from Luanda to the village of N³qui under the guise of buying them clothes at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Despite knowing his HIV status, the suspect is alleged to have begun sexually abusing the minors once they arrived.
The chief police officer, during the presentation of groups of alleged criminals after their arrest, stated that medical examinations conducted at the Noqui Municipal Hospital revealed that the girls had been diagnosed with HIV.
In a separate incident, two individuals posing as agents of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, Zaire, were also apprehended for extorting money. According to Pedro Nkosi Pereira, the municipal director of the SIC, the impostors defrauded citizens of significant amounts using counterfeit badges and false promises of employment in the Ministry of the Interior.
The alleged agents reportedly collected money and personal files from victims, promising them positions within the military institution.
