Johannesburg: The Angolan striker Laurindo Aur©lio "Depº" is currently leading the goal-scoring chart in the 2025 COSAFA Cup football tournament taking place in South Africa, having netted four goals in just two appearances.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the 24-year-old, who currently plays for FK Vojvodina in Serbia, made a significant impact by scoring a penalty in the 90th minute of Angola's Group B opener against Namibia. He followed up this performance with a hat trick in the subsequent match against Lesotho, showcasing his proficiency and skill on the field.
The tournament has also seen goals from players like Vidinho (Angola), Ime Okon (South Africa), Kabelo Dlamini (Lesotho), Ivan Kamberipa (Namibia), Ibrahim Madi (Comoros), Makara Ntaitsane (Lesotho), Toky Rakotondraibe (Madagascar), and Ant³nio Sumbane (Mozambique), each contributing one goal to their respective teams' efforts.
Depº's prowess in front of goal is not new; he was also the top scorer in the 2024 COSAFA Cup held in Port Elizabeth, where he scored five goals. His impressive track record includes training at the Angolan club Acad©mica do Lobito and playing for several clubs including Recreativo da Ca¡la, Sagrada Esperan§a da Lunda Norte, Petro de Luanda, and Gil Vicente in Portugal.
In the ongoing tournament, Angola is leading Group B with four points. Lesotho follows in second place with three points, Namibia holds third with two points, and Malawi is at the bottom with one point. Angola is set to face Malawi in their next match on Tuesday at Toyota Stadium at 5 p.m.
Depº's career highlights include winning the Angolan first division football championship with Petro de Luanda in the 2022-23 season and the Angola Super Cup with Sagrada Esperan§a in 2021-22, as well as the COSAFA Cup in 2024.
