Benguela: The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, announced the opening of two new fishing facilities in the municipality of Baa Farta, Benguela province. This development is set to occur in the coming months, with the announcement made during her recent visit to the fishing village of Baa Farta.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the Baa Fish fishery will boast a storage capacity of 600 tons and an estimated production capability of 80 tons every 12 hours, amounting to 160 tons daily. This facility, set to be inaugurated on a date yet to be announced, is expected to create 160 direct jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy.
The Alexandra House fishery, another major project, is situated on a 4-hectare site and is anticipated to open in early 2026. It will feature a freezing capacity of 200 tons per day and a storage capacity of 1,500 tons. This facility represents a substantial investment of 54 million pounds and will include four trawling and purse seine vessels, alongside four freezing chambers. The Alexandra House fishery is projected to generate 700 direct jobs upon completion.
During her three-day working visit to Benguela province, Minister Neto also visited fishing zones in Egipto Praia and Equimina. Additionally, she inspected fisheries based in the municipality of Baa Farta and toured the professional technical school for fisheries.
