Icolo e Bengo:Mozambique's Minister of Transport and Logistics, Joo Jorge Matlombe, emphasized the importance of governments becoming primary consumers of locally produced goods to foster local development. His remarks came during a visit to the OPAIA Motors Group facilities, where he was joined by Angola's State Secretary for Land Transport, Jorge Bengue.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Minister Matlombe underscored the need for governments to trust local producers, create conducive environments, and support local industry growth. He advocated for prioritizing locally assembled vehicles over imports to advance industrial sustainability, highlighting the state's role as a crucial partner in supporting the industry.
The Minister noted that OPAIA Motors contributes significantly to youth employment in Angola, with many young Angolans among its workforce. He praised Angola's efforts in reducing transport import volumes, which he viewed as essential for meeting the nation's needs and supporting industrialization across Africa.
Matlombe also stressed the necessity of forming partnerships among African countries to minimize foreign currency outflows and enhance continental development.
OPAIA Motors' Director-General, Jos© Moreira, revealed the company's regional expansion plans, focusing on the Mozambican market and showcasing its capacity and innovations to both Angola and Mozambique. The OPAIA Group's vehicle assembly and sales complex, launched on January 20, 2026, is located in the Special Economic Zone in Calumbo, Icolo e Bengo.
