Minister highlights equity policy in higher education

Huambo – Angolan minister of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Maria do Rosário Bragança Sambo highlighted Friday the setting of equity policy in the sector to ensure greater participation of women in scientific and technological development.

The official was speaking in the central Huambo province ahead of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science that will be commemorated on Saturday (11).

The minister said that this is a crucial factor in granting more opportunities for women to participate in development and, at the same time, in scientific and technological promotion without inequalities.

She stated that the inclusion of women in the training and teaching process is crucial for their motivation and engagement in the activities focused on sciences, representing a good foundation for the inclusion of women in scientific research.

Currently, she said, 600 secondary education women from across the country are attending a scholarship, offered by the Angolan Government, as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) project.

On her turn, the governor of Huambo province, Lotti Nolika, pledged to work on programmes for the inclusion of women in the education system, so that they can participate in socio-economic development projects.
