Luanda: Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, T©te Ant³nio, received Ambassador Joo Samuel Caholo, the Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), on Tuesday afternoon to discuss matters pertinent to the organization. The meeting, held at the headquarters of Angolan diplomacy, centered on the management of the ICGLR and the preparation for its upcoming statutory meeting in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the discussions also addressed the operational challenges faced by the Executive Secretariat of the ICGLR and explored potential solutions to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization. T©te Ant³nio, who is currently the president of the Regional Interministerial Committee of the ICGLR, emphasized the importance of member states' commitment to implementing the organization's decisions and recommendations to achieve shared goals.
The ICGLR, an intergovernmental organization founded on the Compact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region, comprises 12 member states: Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia. Its mission is to promote peace, security, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
The organization is dedicated to resolving conflicts, strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, fostering economic growth, promoting regional integration, and tackling humanitarian and social issues. Additionally, the ICGLR advocates for gender equality and the protection of women and children.
