Luanda – The ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Angola, Saadia El Alaoui, argues that Africa should strengthen its policies and programmes focused on ensuring food security and social peace on the continent.
On the occasion of another anniversary of Africa Day, which is commemorated this Tuesday, May 25, the diplomat assessed the current state of Africa’s development and pointed out ways for it to conquer the place reserved for it at the global level.
Africa Day is celebrated annually on 25 May, in allusion to the date on which the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) was founded in 1963 in Ethiopia, a continental entity that has been replaced by the current African Union (AU) since 2002.
The ambassador stressed that to avoid losing more decades for the establishment, on the continent, of resilient economies, at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has amplified the warning signal, African countries are called upon to face the debt challenges in a rational manner and to have net financing dedicated to education and health.
For Saadia El Alaoui, it is important that Africa also continues to prioritise two main strategic axes for intervention, namely the development of integrative and transformative infrastructures, as well as the implementation of a new, balanced and growing African partnership.
The diplomat states, in this regard, that not enough attention has been paid to the importance of the issue of regional integration in a context of globalisation and multiple partnerships.
She also called for a reflection on the main challenges of “weak integration” and the economic participation of Africa in the world trade system.
In her view, the lack of infrastructure, difficulties linked to connectivity, the persistence of certain crises and security issues are all challenges to the integration of markets between African countries
