MPLA Political Bureau Expresses Sorrow for Victims of Benguela Rains

Benguela: The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the ruling MPLA expressed deep sorrow for the victims of the intense rainfall that hit the province of Benguela, causing the Cavaco River to overflow. In a message of condolence, the MPLA's governing body lamented the loss of human lives, the displacement of families, and significant material damage. According to Angola Press News Agency, the Political Bureau expressed full solidarity with the affected families and reaffirmed its unconditional support to the Executive in protecting the populations. It emphasized the mobilization of all necessary means to mitigate the effects of the calamity and reaffirmed support to the government in aiding the displaced and restoring living conditions in affected areas. The statement welcomed the prompt intervention of civil protection agencies, local authorities, and defense and security forces, highlighting their crucial commitment in assisting the population. The Political Bureau called for continued coordinated , effective, and supportive responses to the crisis. The party noted that the rains are also impacting other provinces in the country, requiring all Angolans to demonstrate unity, mutual aid, and collective responsibility. MPLA pledged to work alongside the government to strengthen public policies for prevention, land use planning, and emergency response, aiming for greater resilience against extreme weather events. The MPLA reiterated its confidence in the Angolan people's ability to overcome adversity, united by values of solidarity, work, and hope for a better future.
