Huila: Namibian Defense Minister Frans Kapofi praised the preservation of peace in Angola as an invaluable asset during a visit to historical sites in Huila province on Monday. Speaking at a courtesy meeting following a Sunday visit to the Cassinga Memorial construction site in the municipality of Jamba Mineira, Kapofi emphasized the importance of regional stability and the shared commitment required to maintain it.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the joint delegation completed their journey along former combat routes without military escort or security details, highlighting the current peace and stability in the region. They traveled by train through the municipalities of Dongo and Matala, retracing paths linked to Namibia's liberation struggle. Kapofi remarked, "It was a good experience. This tells us that peace is precious and we should cherish it with pride."
Angolan National Defense Minister Lucio Amaral noted that defense delegations from both nations are collaborating on historical commemoration projects. They are also scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks on Tuesday, further strengthening their partnership.
During the visit, officials paid tribute at a cemetery in Luyovo dedicated to fallen fighters from the Namibian Liberation Struggle. They also visited a local school complex built by Namibia and handed over to Angolan authorities in 2009, symbolizing the enduring bond between the two countries.
Hula Provincial Governor Nuno Mahapi highlighted that the historical ties between the neighbors continue to support regional development and tourism, showcasing the positive impact of their collaboration.
