National Assembly Speaker Urges for Peace Preservation

Luanda: The Speaker of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, on Wednesday (13) urged all Angolans to make the country an example of peace, unity, and cohesion for its children. The appeal was expressed in a message delivered at the end of the parliamentary debate surrounding the events that occurred on July 28, 29, and 30 in the country, which resulted in acts of vandalism and disorder. Carolina Cerqueira emphasized the need to continue defending the values of democracy and harmonious coexistence among Angolans, thus contributing to prosperity and social justice.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Carolina Cerqueira urged that responsibility, respect for public property, and human life must be on the political agenda. She highlighted that voters expect the National Assembly to be a benchmark and model of respect for institutions, tolerance, and recognition of true and constructive dialogue, always respecting differences of opinion with civility.

Cerqueira also noted that the open, patriotic, and democratic debate surrounding the country's recent events demonstrates the responsibility of this National Assembly to strengthen the democratic rule of law. She emphasized that young people must understand their role as the present and future guardians and promoters of peace, aimed at sustainable development.

"There is no prosperity without peace, nor peace without justice; therefore, without peace, there can be no sustainable development," Cerqueira maintained. Before the session began, the deputies observed a minute of silence in tribute to the victims of the acts of vandalism and riots.
