Luanda:The National Bank of Angola (BNA) is reaffirming its commitment to liberalize the foreign exchange market without compromising its national inflation-reduction goals or economic stability. Governor Manuel Tiago Dias emphasized the continuation of market reforms as essential for protecting Angola's economy from external shocks.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Dias made these remarks after a meeting between Minister of State for Economic Coordination José de Lima Massano and International Finance Corporation (IFC) Director-General Makhtar Diop. The governor highlighted the importance of maintaining a steady liberalization path.
In addition to exchange rate policy, Dias noted that the central bank is focusing on expanding credit access for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in the agriculture sector. He identified regulatory mechanisms, such as Notice 10, as crucial for enabling commercial banks to direct liquidity into productive sectors and agricultural activities.
Luanda is currently hosting the African Financial Industry Summit (AFIS), a significant event marking its first occurrence in Southern Africa and in a Portuguese-speaking nation. Organized by the Jeune Afrique Media Group in partnership with the IFC, the summit is drawing over 1,250 senior financial leaders, central bank governors, and government ministers to discuss mobilizing private capital for agriculture, industry, housing, and infrastructure.
The conference features key panels addressing a $400 billion development financing gap, the potential of financial strength for job creation, and the development of a new era for African financial architecture.
