Luanda: The new border municipality of Luvo, located 60 kilometres north of the city of Mbanza Kongo in northern Zaire province, will be connected to the National Electricity System later this year. The municipal administrator of Luvo, Agostinho Dias Zantoto, announced on Monday in Soyo that work is underway to ensure that this border district with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will soon have electricity from the national grid.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Zantoto emphasized the importance of bringing energy to the town as a key factor in attracting private investment and boosting development in the region. He noted that while there is no immediate focus on rehabilitating the access road to the municipality, the priority is to enhance infrastructure to drive the town's growth.
Luvo, previously a commune in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, is situated 60 kilometres north of Zaire province's capital, following its recent separation under the country's new Political-Administrative Division (DPA). The town holds a strategic position as a significant trade point with southern African countries, particularly the Democratic Republic of Congo, due to its land connections.
The municipality of Luvo has an estimated population of over 11,000 inhabitants.
