Luanda: The Minister of Education, Luísa Grilo, announced on Friday in Luanda that national languages will be introduced into the school curriculum for the next academic year. The announcement was made following the 6th ordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, which approved the Presidential Decree endorsing the Operational Plan for the New Curriculum and Teaching Model for the 5th and 6th Grades. According to Angola Press News Agency, the legal framework outlines activities that will guide the implementation of a new Study Plan in the 3rd cycle of Primary Education. The model is structured into knowledge areas, incorporating program content from previous subjects such as humanities, citizenship, science, technology, mathematics, and expression-related subjects. The languages to be included are Umbundu, Kimbundu, Kikongo, Tchokwe, Nganguela, among others. The plan introduces Co-taught Single Teaching, involving classes conducted by a Head Teacher with assistance from two others in specific curriculum c omponents. It emphasizes enhancing the implementation of Angolan languages in the curriculum and integrating major international communication languages. Furthermore, it includes training for Education Agents such as teachers, pedagogical sub-directors, inspectors, and pedagogical supervisors. The rollout of this new teaching model and curriculum for the 5th and 6th grades is planned to occur progressively over five years, divided into five phases: experimentation, monitoring, and evaluation; 1st phase of generalization and monitoring; evaluation, correction, and second phase of generalization; full generalization; and impact assessment.
