Ouagadougou: The National Police launched on Wednesday the activities of the second edition of its 72 Hours of Preventive Health, an initiative aimed at strengthening the culture of prevention within the police force and partner forces. This event is designed to equip security forces engaged in counter-terrorism operations, thereby preventing psychological trauma resulting from workplace incidents, as highlighted by Thierry Dofizouho Tuina, the technical advisor to the Ministry of Security.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Deputy Director General of the National Police, Nabonswend© Sankara, stated that the initiative aims to promote best practices in preventive health through various means such as panels, and medical, psychological, and ophthalmological consultations. The event includes free screening sessions for conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, hepatitis B and C, HIV/AIDS, and cervical and breast cancer. Special attention is directed towards the widows and orphans of heroes who have fallen on the field of honor.
The services provided also extend to users of the national police health services. David Daila, the Health Service Director, assured that the police are equipped with at least 14 clinical psychologists who specialize in preventing and treating psycho-traumas among security forces and the general population.
This second edition of the 72nd Preventive Health Conference is conducted under the theme "Psychotrauma in a context of terrorism: prevention and resilience strategy," underscoring the ongoing efforts to build a stronger, more humane, and resilient police force.
