New airport to give greater international visibility to country – president

Luanda – Angolan head of State João Lourenço Saturday said that the new Luanda International Airport “Dr. António Agostinho Neto” will generate more revenues to the state’s coffers and give greater visibility to the country.

“The country will gain more revenues but also international visibility,” said President João Lourenço, stressing that “Angola will be better known by this airport that will be the main gateway and out of our country.”

Speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the works of Dr. António Agostinho Neto Airport, the Angolan head of State said that the country will have gains in all fields of the economy, particularly in the tourism sector.

“However, the economy wins, tourism in particular wins, but not only that, the producers of exportable products that will be exported through this route will also win”, he pointed out.

The infrastructure, said the President, will guarantee business to many people, whether flower producers or horticultural producers and those types of goods to be exported through that route.

At the end of the guided tour of the new “Dr.António Agostinho Neto” International Airport, the President of the Republic said he had received guarantees that the infrastructure would be completed by 2023.

“We have just completed yet another visit to this important infrastructure and, at the end of this visit, we are more assured that, effectively, we will have the new Luanda International Airport (…) ready next year, in 2023”, he stated.

He explained that the Executive is working not only to complete the physical works but also to coincide with the completion of certificates from the competent international institutions for the purpose, so that the airport can operate.

The Head of State, who was accompanied by various figures, including Ministers of State, ministers and senior officials from his Office, believes that, at the time of the inauguration, the country will be able to operate this important airport.

Accesses to make life easier for passengers

President João Lourenço said that he left very precise recommendations to the construction and transport sectors that have to do with guaranteeing access in general, either by rail or by road to the new Luanda International Airport.

“We are making arrangement in terms of accesses to make life easier for passengers. The volume of passengers will be very large and, with the current accesses, we are certainly going to create major constraints and that is not what we want”, he stressed.
