Luanda – The new facilities of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), unveiled by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, dignify the country, said today former presidents of the institution.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony, Suzana Inglês, who presided over CNE from 2012 for about a year and six months, said that the building gave the institution greater dignity and better accommodation for its staff.
She considered the space to be more in line with institutions of this nature in countries in the southern region.
André da Silva Neto, who led the institution in the 2017 elections, considers that all the conditions to work have been created, without constraints.
He recalled that at the time, two commissioners worked in one office and were forced to travel to other places to conduct the poll.
Caetano de Sousa, the first President of CNE (1992-2008), said that it was a great gain to have the polling centre attached to the headquarters.
He recalled that during the 1992 and 2008 elections, the polls were held in different places and with many problems.
According to Caetano de Sousa, the new headquarters of the CNE, besides providing dignity, it also ensures functioning and the necessary working conditions.
Valued at over US$44 million, the new facilities are located between Rua dos Coqueiros and the former Baltazar de Aragão walkway, and consist of four floors, built in an area of around 10,900 square metres.
