New Police chief sworn in

Luanda – The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Tuesday in Luanda said that it is the State’s responsibility to ensure that citizens exercise in freedom the rights conferred on them by the Constitution and the Law.

On swearing in the new commander-general of the National Police, Arnaldo Manuel Carlos, the President of the Republic said that it was also the State’s responsibility to ensure public order and tranquillity for citizens, with the assistance of different bodies.

João Lourenço said he was confident that the new commander-general of the National Police would carry out his duties with dignity, professionalism and in a competent manner, and assured him of the necessary assistance for that purpose.

Before his swearing in, Arnaldo Manuel Carlos was graduated to the rank of Commissioner General of the National Police, by the President of the Republic, as Commander-in-Chief.

At the end of the ceremony, the Commissioner-General pointed out as priorities the fight against crime and the increase of the sense of security of the population, with the participation of the citizens.

He said that fighting crime with professionalism, under the terms of the law and respecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, was one of the recommendations received.

For the current year, he pointed as priorities the securing of the next elections, scheduled for August, and other acts in the political calendar.
