Cunene: The Vice-Governor of Cunene for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Apolo Ndinoulenga, highlighted this Thursday the Executive's commitment to resolving the drought situation, one of the main problems affecting the local populations. Apolo Ndinoulenga was speaking during the provincial event commemorating the 104th anniversary of National Hero's Day, celebrated on September 17th.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Ndinoulenga emphasized the construction of the water transfer system from the Cunene River to the Cafu Canal, alongside the recent inaugurations of the Ndºe and Calucuve dams and their associated canals. He described these infrastructures as a structural revolution for the Cunene province, echoing the maxim that "The most important thing is to solve the people's problem," attributed to National Hero, Agostinho Neto.
He further explained that honoring Agostinho Neto's legacy in Cunene involves providing concrete solutions to the historical challenges faced by the population, particularly the cyclical drought phenomenon. "Water is the realization of Agostinho Neto's dreams, living proof that when there is political determination and teamwork, the greatest difficulties are overcome," he emphasized.
These projects are seen as pillars for water security, agricultural development, social inclusion, employment, and climate change adaptation. The governor noted that these initiatives showcase human engineering capabilities, positioning Cunene as a model of resilience against global climate change.
Ndinoulenga urged local farmers, livestock breeders, and youth to maintain these infrastructures responsibly. He stressed the importance of adhering to President Neto's teachings and ideals, enhancing moral, civic, and patriotic education among the population.
Celebrating National Hero's Day, he said, renews the commitment to transforming Neto's visionary ideas into tangible improvements for families' living conditions. Neto's legacy, marked by integrity and concern for all Angolans' well-being, remains a guiding force in the fight against poverty and societal issues.
The former combatants and veterans reiterated their dedication to serving as paragons of hard work and patriotism. In a message delivered by Adriano Lumboleni, they emphasized the current struggle against poverty and dependence through sustainable agriculture. They urged unity and mutual support among Angolans to honor Agostinho Neto with deeds rather than words.
Under the theme "Let's return to our fields to increase agricultural production," the event commemorated a national holiday established in 1980, celebrating Neto's birth on September 17, 1922, and his pivotal role in proclaiming Angola's independence on November 11, 1975.
