Baa farta: The Secretary of State for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Victor Chilamba, emphasized the critical role of the newly inaugurated Calombolo Qumica factory in the manufacturing industry during a ceremony held in Baa Farta, Benguela province. The opening of this caustic soda factory marks a significant advancement in the sea salt value chain by enhancing its transformation.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the statement was made during the inauguration ceremony where the unveiling of the plaque was conducted by the governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Jºnior. Victor Chilamba underscored the initiative's importance in fostering integration between national raw material production and the processing industry, which, in turn, contributes to economic development and strengthens production chains.
Chilamba expressed that the establishment of Calombolo Qumica provides a promising outlook for national production, industrial advancement, and the diversification of Angola's economy. He noted that the chemical industry, especially in producing caustic soda, forms a strategic connection with marine resources, as salt is the principal raw material used in the production process.
He further elaborated on the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources' essential role in regulating and organizing this activity, which is vital for the national economy, particularly the production of sea salt. Chilamba emphasized the importance of licensing salt production units to ensure they meet hygiene, sanitation, and environmental standards, in collaboration with other state agencies.
Chilamba also pointed out that the standards for salt produced for human and animal consumption, export, and supply to the processing industry must be upheld. He highlighted that Angola has produced over 150,000 tons of sea salt annually in recent years, primarily for consumption and export.
Concluding his remarks, Victor Chilamba reiterated the government's commitment to collaborate with both private and public sectors to enhance the quality of salt production and develop a competitive and sustainable national industry.
