Cuanza norte: At least two anti-personnel mines and 129 explosive devices were deactivated in 2025 in the province of Cuanza Norte by the Provincial Demining Brigade, the National Demining Institute has announced Friday.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the institution carried out 44 specific rapid response and removal actions of explosive devices identified by the population and municipal police commands in the municipalities of Bolongo, Lucala, Samba Caju, and Lucala. This initiative led to the deactivation and removal of three anti-personnel mines, 131 other explosive devices, and 36 small-caliber munitions in an area of 220 square meters. However, part of this material has not yet been destroyed.
Garcia Numa, the institution's representative, reported that the province did not record any accidents involving mines in 2025 and identified Cazengo municipality as having the highest rate of mines and other explosive devices. The provincial head of the National Demining Institute mentioned that the institution is completing the process of identifying mined areas to register them in the national database.
The demining brigade in the province currently has 25 members, but it may receive new staff this year due to the merger of the groups from the Military House of the Presidency of the Republic and the institution at the national level.
