Cunene: At least 3,292 National Police officers have been mobilized in Cunene Province to maintain public order, patrol, and combat crime during the New Year period, reported Superintendent Andr© Coxi, head of the Cunene Department of Public Security and Operations, on Tuesday.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Superintendent Coxi emphasized the unique nature of New Year's celebrations compared to Christmas, citing the prevalence of events such as New Year's Eve parties and religious vigils that necessitate a greater deployment of forces to reinforce policing in areas of social interaction.
The deployment will focus on areas with the highest concentrations of gatherings, including New Year's Eve parties, churches, gas stations, banking institutions, ATMs, and large commercial areas requiring surveillance, Coxi explained. This strategic identification and alignment of activities aim to ensure a safe transition from 2025 to 2026 for the citizens.
Superintendent Coxi urged the police forces to demonstrate professionalism and promptness in their duties, focusing on security and incident prevention during New Year's Eve celebrations. He also highlighted the importance of following the directives of the higher command.
The road safety plan was also addressed, which involves 128 personnel and 32 prevention and inspection barriers to mitigate accidents and traffic-related fatalities. For the turn of the year 2025/2026, 26 activities related to New Year's Eve parties and religious events are planned across different municipalities in Cunene Province.
