OVER 100,000 FAMILIES BENEFIT FROM AGRICULTURE INPUTS

Luanda – At least 139,000 families from seven provinces of the country are receiving agricultural inputs, bank credit and having access to participation in decision making bodies.

The support from Rural Development and Environment Association (ADRA) benefitted the provinces of Namibe, Huila, Huambo, Benguela, Malange, Cunene and Luanda.

ADRA has conducted civic actions, access to information on municipal legislation and monitoring public policies for residents’ committees.

Releasing the data at the end of a round table on employment, hunger and poverty,

on Tuesday, the director of the Communication and Social Advocacy Unit (UCAS), Cecilia Quitombe, said that a total of 32 cooperatives in Huambo and Malange provinces had access to bank credit provided by the African Development Bank.

According to the director, the cooperatives that received the funding are working to increase the levels of production to fight poverty in a context where agriculture should be the basis for the development of the country.

As for the drought that affects the central and southern regions of the country, she noted that ADRA has projects in the provinces of Cunene and Huila, where they have built about 60 wells to enable families to have access to water and mitigate the effects of the drought.
