N³qui: Since Wednesday, over 20 trucks bound for Cabinda province have been unable to continue their journey due to a car accident that blocked the road between the village of Kivola and the N³qui municipal headquarters in Zaire Province. The accident, which involved two heavy vehicles carrying various goods to Cabinda, did not result in any fatalities. The trucks were traveling through the border town of N³qui and the territory of the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Angola Press News Agency, a statement from the N³qui Municipal Administration revealed that the accident was caused by torrential rain on this mountainous and unpaved stretch of road, disrupting the journey of the truck drivers. The National Road 120, which serves as the only land connection between the provinces of Zaire and Cabinda, is crucial for transportation, with Cabinda being geographically discontinuous from the rest of the country.
The affected road section, located between Kivola and N³qui's municipal headquarters, has not seen rehabilitation works for decades. It is part of the 110 km Mbanza Kongo/N³qui road, which has been undergoing paving since October 2020.
