The number of road accidents since the start of the current year has risen to 2,546, leaving 548 people dead and 3,553 injured, according to the latest statistics published by the National Road Safety Observatory. Young people under the age of 34 account for 50% of deaths caused by road accidents, according to the statistics. Lack of vigilance and speeding account for 52% of deaths At a press conference on Tuesday, the Road Safety Ambassadors Association reported that 90 deaths were caused by road accidents among schoolchildren aged under 14. In this context, the association called for the need to activate the amendment of decree no. 2000-151, relating to the reduction of speed to 30 km/hour in the vicinity of schools and training establishments. This amendment concerns the regions affected by the speed reduction, in particular the vicinity of schools and training establishments, higher education establishments and sports institutions.
